Where to stay in Paphos without a car: choose useful surroundings

← All local guides

For a first car-free stay, start with hotels near Kato Paphos harbour. Choose Coral Bay for a beach-led week, or the Old Town for town life. A bus stop helps, but everyday meals and the walk back to your room matter more.

Start with the evenings, not the excursion list

Before choosing a hotel, imagine returning from dinner on three different nights. If that means a straightforward walk within your comfortable range, your car-free holiday has a useful foundation. If it means a taxi every time, include that cost from the start instead of assuming buses will solve every journey.

For a first visit combining the harbour and Archaeological Park, Annabelle and Almyra are sensible first comparisons. Their advantage is the coastal location. It is not a promise that every room, restaurant or pavement will suit every mobility need; the entrance and immediate street route still matter.

Tombs of the Kings: useful connections, a different neighbourhood

Elysium makes sense when coastal hotel time and the archaeological area appeal more than having the harbour at the centre of every day. The Tombs of the Kings site, the avenue and the bus station are distinct places. Do not assume the hotel is beside the station because they share an area name.

The current 615 leaves Tombs of the Kings Station for Coral Bay, while the 611 links the station with the harbour and the hotel coast towards the waterpark. This makes the area useful for selected bus outings. Choose it because the surroundings fit your stay, not solely because a route line crosses the map.

Coral Bay works without a car when the beach is the plan

A car-free Coral Bay stay is a good choice if you want several local beach days and one or two excursions. Coral Beach Hotel & Resort and Thalassa serve different parties: the former belongs on a resort shortlist, while the latter admits guests aged 16 and above.

It is a weaker choice if you want to visit the harbour, Old Town and southern hotel coast on separate days and return for dinner each time. Keep those outings together where practical, or choose Kato Paphos and make Coral Bay the occasional trip. Do not buy an excursion until its pickup area matches your hotel.

Old Town: choose town life rather than a beach address

Axiothea and Casa Mespilea are alternatives for people who prefer upper-town streets and café stops to being beside the water. This is a different holiday, not a cheaper substitute for a beachfront hotel. The height difference becomes noticeable when you are tired or carrying shopping.

Route 610 links the Municipal Market and harbour. Use a bus or taxi for a planned coastal day and return before you are relying on a connection you have not established. For someone who dislikes slopes, a harbour-side base is the more straightforward starting recommendation.

A workable transport budget

The operator currently lists a €2 daytime single and a €6.50 daily ticket. Three daytime singles cost €6, so a daily ticket is not automatically the cheaper choice. Night singles cost €3 after 21:00; a non-personal weekly pass is listed at €35. These are published prices reviewed on 29 October 2026, not a quote for future dates.

Choose a pass after counting journeys rather than buying it because the holiday lasts a week. A few local walking days plus one organised excursion may require very little bus spending. Keep a separate allowance for airport transport and an occasional taxi; those are different decisions from buying a city-bus pass.
