The waterfront at Paphos harbour

CHOOSE THE STAY YOU WILL ACTUALLY USE

Paphos all-inclusive, half board or B&B: which should you book?

← All local guides

Choose B&B if restaurants and full days out are part of the holiday. Choose all-inclusive if you expect to spend most days at the resort. Half board is the middle ground for people who want an easy evening meal after exploring. Compare the supplement with the meals you will actually eat, not seven theoretical days of maximum use.

Our first choice for an exploring holiday: B&B

If you want a boat trip, a village day and several restaurant evenings, B&B is the cleanest fit. You can leave after breakfast without thinking about a lunch you have already paid for, and choose dinner near wherever the day finishes. It also removes the pressure to return from a sunset outing for a hotel meal.

Location matters as much as board basis. Around Kato Paphos, a hotel close to your preferred waterfront routes makes independent evenings easier. A coastal resort further from your chosen restaurants may need bus or taxi journeys. Add those journeys to the comparison rather than assuming every Paphos address offers the same dining freedom.

When all-inclusive earns its place

All-inclusive makes the strongest case for a resort-led week: repeated pool days, children wanting snacks, and adults who prefer predictable food and drink spending. Olympic Lagoon Resorts Paphos is an established all-inclusive option, so it belongs on that shortlist. It is a different holiday proposition from buying the cheapest room and planning to eat out every evening.

The label does not mean every restaurant is unlimited, every drink is included or every facility is free. Compare the actual dining allocation, reservation rules, included drinks and service hours. For a short stay, a weekly restaurant entitlement may work differently from the impression given by a list of venues.

Half board: the details can change the answer

Half board generally means breakfast and another main meal, but the package wording determines what you receive. Amavi’s Half Board Premium includes a dine-around concept and specified drinks with evening meals. That is not equivalent to a basic breakfast-and-buffet-dinner rate elsewhere. Outdoor restaurant operation and à la carte reservations also affect what is available during your stay.

For a couple who enjoys eating at the hotel, Amavi is worth comparing on the whole package. If independent tavernas are a highlight for you, a less inclusive rate at another hotel can be the better choice even when the headline supplement looks attractive. Dietary requirements deserve a discussion about actual menu choices, not just reassurance that a buffet is large.

Calculate the cost per meal you will actually use

Suppose a seven-night half-board upgrade costs £420 for two adults. If you use all seven dinners, that is £30 per person per dinner. If two evenings are already reserved for meals out, the same upgrade costs £42 per person for each of the five dinners you will use. This is an illustration, not a quoted hotel rate.

Compare that figure with what you would realistically spend on those dinners, including any drinks covered by the upgrade. Do not count a restaurant meal you would never have bought, or treat an unused lunch as a saving. Compare the same room, dates, guests and cancellation terms: a non-refundable package can look cheaper for a reason unrelated to food.

The convenience still has value. With young children, avoiding a restaurant search every night may justify paying a little more. For a food-focused couple, losing the freedom to choose a different neighbourhood each evening may outweigh a small saving.

Self-catering is useful even if you rarely cook

An apartment can solve breakfast timing, snacks and a child’s familiar meal without turning the holiday into kitchen duty. Elysia Park’s apartments have equipped kitchens and dining areas, with washing machines also listed. It is an option to compare when practical space matters more than a resort dining programme.

Allow for shopping and the journey to restaurants. An apartment is not automatically cheaper once groceries, transport and meals out are included, and a kitchen photograph does not establish that every accommodation category has the same equipment.

Make the decision before comparing hotel prices

Write down your likely week: resort days, excursions, evenings out and any wedding or family commitments. Choose the board basis that supports that week, then shortlist hotels by location and room type. B&B near the places you want to eat is often a stronger choice than a bigger package in the wrong area.

Use the hotel options below as different ways to organise a stay, not a ranking. The available board basis and its inclusions belong to the exact rate you select. A hotel name alone does not promise a particular package.
