TWO FESTIVE DAYS, TWO DIFFERENT PLANS

Christmas Day and Boxing Day in Paphos: meals, opening hours and a two-day plan

← All local guides

Make Christmas Day the meal-and-stay day, then use Boxing Day for one proper outing. In 2026, Christmas Day falls on Friday and Boxing Day on Saturday. Both are public holidays in Cyprus, but that does not mean every attraction closes on both days. The useful distinction is between the archaeological sites, the castle and businesses with their own festive arrangements.

What is actually open over Christmas?

For Kato Paphos Archaeological Park and Tombs of the Kings, the published winter timetable is daily, 08:30–17:00. Both specifically exclude Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Orthodox Easter Sunday. Boxing Day is not listed as an exception. That makes Boxing Day a reasonable archaeology plan under the regular schedule, rather than a day to write off automatically.

Paphos Castle has a different rule: its published schedule excludes public holidays. Plan to see its exterior from the harbour on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, saving entry for another date. The fact that an attraction is beside an open promenade does not make its ticket office open.

These published schedules were reviewed on 30 October 2026. A special closure notice can override them. Before setting out for archaeology on Boxing Day, the site contact is +357 26 306 217. This is a specific final opening check, not a reason to leave the whole holiday undecided.

Christmas lunch: choose the setting before the menu

Choose a meal at your accommodation if the priority is a relaxed day with children, older relatives or anyone who would rather avoid another journey. Choose a separate restaurant if eating somewhere different is the point of the celebration. For a self-catering stay, organise the festive meal and breakfast supplies before Christmas Day; do not build the day around finding an open supermarket.

An advertised festive meal is not necessarily included in a room rate, half board or all-inclusive package. The useful booking figure is the total for your party, including any compulsory supplement, children’s charges and drinks. Establish the sitting time, dietary arrangements and deposit terms at the same time. If you are staying elsewhere, the reservation must explicitly accept non-residents.

At our 30 October research review, we had not verified enough dated 2026 menus and prices to publish a dependable Christmas-lunch shortlist. Antasia has a festive dining page, but its displayed Christmas service has no clear season year. The Minthis page we found describes 2024–25. Neither is being presented here as a confirmed Christmas Day 2026 booking. A familiar venue name or a recently crawled page is not proof of this year’s offer.

Our suggested Christmas Day: lunch is the main event

Have breakfast without rushing and keep the morning close to your base. From a harbour-side hotel, a short waterfront outing can fit before lunch. From Coral Bay or a more secluded resort, use the immediate surroundings instead of making a round trip to central Paphos just to fill the morning.

Leave a generous gap before your reserved sitting. After a long lunch, a brief walk or time at the hotel is enough; there is no benefit in adding a closed archaeological site to the plan. In wind or rain, keep the afternoon indoors rather than trying to preserve a beach itinerary.

If lunch involves a taxi, arrange both directions together. A return booking is especially helpful for a restaurant outside your accommodation area. For a family meal, specify any child-seat needs when arranging the vehicle rather than assuming the next available car will have them.

Our suggested Boxing Day: one site, not a sightseeing marathon

For a first visit from Kato Paphos, choose the Archaeological Park in the morning and leave lunch for afterwards. The mosaics and wider site give the day a clear purpose without requiring a second destination across town. Allow time to explore rather than arriving late against the 17:00 winter closing time.

Choose Tombs of the Kings instead if that setting interests you more or it fits your hotel location better. It is a separate entrance and visit, not another room inside the harbour-side park. You do not need both sites on the same day to make the outing worthwhile.

If the forecast is poor, switch to a relaxed meal and facilities you can actually use at your accommodation. An indoor pool or spa belongs in the plan only if its winter operation, guest access and any child restrictions suit your party. Keep the outdoor visit for a better day when your stay allows it.

Would the Christmas village make a better Boxing Day?

Statos–Agios Fotios has a confirmed Christmas-village season from 21 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. It sits in the Paphos hills at about 950 metres, so treat it as a separate inland outing with warmer layers and a planned return, not a quick extension of a harbour walk.

We have not verified a detailed official 2026 daily programme or Christmas Day opening hours. A season range alone does not guarantee a particular performance, workshop or full opening day. Choose the village instead of archaeology once the programme for your date is established; do not squeeze both into Boxing Day.

For a short stay without a car, the coastal plan is the simpler starting choice. The village becomes more attractive when the journey is organised and your group wants a festive mountain outing enough to give it the day.

Where to stay for these two days

Choose harbour-side Kato Paphos if you want meals, waterfront time and the archaeological park to shape your stay. Annabelle and Almyra are useful hotel comparisons for that approach. Compare the actual festive rate and dining arrangements; this is a location shortlist, not a promise of a Christmas package.

Choose Coral Bay if you want the holiday to revolve around the resort and its surroundings. Coral Beach Hotel is a useful property to compare, but a central-Paphos Boxing Day needs its own journey. A room that costs less can be a poorer fit if every meal and outing needs transport.

Book the location and winter facilities you will use. A photograph of a large outdoor pool is less relevant to this particular holiday than meal arrangements, a comfortable room and a manageable journey home after lunch.

Getting around without importing an ordinary weekday timetable

Both dates are public holidays, even though Boxing Day falls on a Saturday in 2026. We have not verified the Christmas 2026 bus notice, so do not treat the ordinary Friday or Saturday departures as a confirmed holiday service. Use the notice for your route and date when it is published.

For a fixed lunch reservation or an airport arrival, organise that journey first and keep optional outings around it. If you arrive late on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day, arrange your first meal before travelling. A hotel reception being open does not establish that its kitchen will still be serving.

Before leaving for the day, settle three things: the meal, the return journey and the one attraction you want to enter. Everything else can stay flexible. That gives these two days a clear shape without turning the break into a timetable.
