A DIFFERENT KIND OF FESTIVE BREAK
Christmas in Paphos: winter stays, village visits and New Year
Plan Christmas in Paphos around a hotel you will enjoy, meals worth booking and a visit to the hills. Here is how to approach the 2026–27 festive season without relying on last year’s event programme.
| When | What we know | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| 21 November 2026–6 January 2027 | Official operating period for Statos–Agios Fotios Christmas village. | Individual opening days, hours, workshops and any booking requirements. |
| 25 and 26 December 2026 | Christmas public holidays. | Meals, shop opening and transport for your plans. |
| 1 and 6 January 2027 | New Year’s Day and Epiphany. | Specific local celebrations and opening arrangements. |
Is Paphos a good choice for Christmas?
It can suit a break built around food, coastal outings and time together, particularly if you would enjoy the hotel even on a day indoors. It is a weaker choice if the holiday depends on guaranteed swimming, every seasonal attraction being open or a large town-centre spectacle on a particular evening.
Start with what you want Christmas Day to feel like. A hotel lunch, an independent restaurant reservation and a self-catering stay all need different arrangements. Once that is settled, use the surrounding days for exploring rather than leaving the most important meal to chance.
Statos–Agios Fotios: the Christmas village in the Paphos hills
Statos–Agios Fotios brings a Christmas-village outing to the Paphos hills for the 2026–27 festive season. Around 950 metres above sea level, it is a separate day out from the coast. Bring warmer layers for the village and arrange your drive or transfer back.
The season runs from 21 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Choose your visiting day before making travel arrangements, then confirm that day’s opening hours and any activities you want to join. Entertainment and workshops may run on selected dates or need advance booking.
Paphos Christmas events and New Year’s Eve
Paphos’s Christmas 2026 programme and public New Year’s Eve celebrations are still awaiting confirmation here. Do not plan around an assumed fireworks display, Christmas market location or opening night taken from an older article.
For a specific festive evening, a confirmed hotel or restaurant arrangement gives you something concrete to build around. Ask whether entertainment, drinks and a set menu are included, what time it ends and how you will get back. If a public event is later announced, check its exact location before adding it.
Choose your hotel for the winter stay you actually want
Kato Paphos is worth comparing if harbour outings and meals nearby are your main plans. If you prefer a resort stay in Coral Bay or along the hotel coast, give more weight to the facilities available at the property during winter. The location you would choose for daily summer swimming may not be the best fit for this trip.
Before booking, confirm whether the hotel is open for your dates, whether any pool is heated and accessible to your party, and whether festive meals cost extra. Check children’s access to indoor facilities and spa areas rather than assuming an indoor pool is a family pool.
Plan Christmas meals and sightseeing on different days
Reserve Christmas lunch or dinner directly with your chosen venue and confirm the menu, payment terms and dietary requirements. A normal restaurant listing is not confirmation that its usual menu will be available on 25 December. Keep a practical food option for arrival day too.
Kato Pafos Archaeological Park closes on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Put that visit on another day and check current opening before setting out. A relaxed waterfront outing can fit around a meal, but it should remain optional if the weather is uninviting.
Build a flexible three-day break
Our suggested structure is an arrival day close to your hotel, a dedicated festive meal day, and one outing with a return journey already arranged. Use the village for the outing if its programme fits; otherwise choose local sightseeing on an open day. Leave a spare slot rather than committing to multiple distant stops.
For boat trips or countryside tours, check that the exact date is bookable and understand the weather and cancellation arrangements. A tour marketed throughout the year is not proof of a Christmas Day departure. Pack layers and a rain option, and make sure your return transport matches holiday service notices.
