ARRIVE, PARK, ENJOY THE DAY
Parking in Paphos: harbour, Old Town and paying with a hire car
For a harbour outing, start with Limanaki Kato Pafos, the municipal free-parking option. For the Old Town, choose an off-street car park near your first stop and pay for the session. Set up card payment before leaving your hotel: you do not need to build your day around finding a working ticket machine.
| Your plan | Our recommendation | The important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Harbour and waterfront | Start with Limanaki Kato Pafos | Listed in free Zone E; a space is not guaranteed. |
| Old Town lunch and wandering | Use an off-street car park | Municipal Market and Kennedy Square are Zone A; Mousallas is Zone B. |
| Quick central errand | Use a correctly signed street bay | Main on-street Zone C is dearer than the off-street zones. |
| A full day away from town | Choose the destination’s own parking | Paphos municipal tariffs do not apply everywhere in the district. |
Harbour parking: aim for the car park, not the promenade
Limanaki Kato Pafos is listed as free Zone E parking. That makes it a sensible first choice for the harbour, castle area and archaeological park. Navigate to the named car park rather than the waterfront attraction itself, then continue on foot. Free parking is a tariff category, not permission to leave the car wherever there is a gap.
Make the harbour one outing. Park once, visit your main sight and have lunch nearby rather than moving the car between neighbouring stops. If the car park is full, use the municipal parking map to choose a signed alternative. Circling the seafront repeatedly is rarely a good use of a short visit.
Old Town: off-street parking is the more useful default
The Municipal Market and Kennedy Square car parks sit in Zone A; Mousallas is in Zone B. Choose between them by the walking route to your first destination. For a leisurely meal and browse, the off-street options make more sense than paying a premium for a roadside bay.
The Old Town and harbour are separate parts of Paphos. If you intend to see both, allow a journey between them; do not interpret a parking recommendation for the upper town as a harbour parking recommendation. For someone with limited mobility, prioritise the distance and gradient from the bay over a small difference in price.
What municipal parking costs
The published tariff is €1 per two hours in Zone A, €1 per three hours in Zone B, €1 per 30 minutes in Zone C and €1 per hour in Zone D. Zone E is free. The listed charging period is 06:00–00:00. These are municipal categories, not a single price for all Paphos parking.
Use the zone and instructions displayed at your actual space. A nearby street can have a different tariff from the car park beside it, while a hotel or private car park can operate its own rules. The rates above were reviewed on 29 October 2026; the live payment screen and signs are what you should use when starting a session.
Paying without relying on a Cyprus phone number
Pafos Smart Parking supports card payment, including a published process without account registration. Use that route if you are visiting with a foreign mobile number rather than assuming an SMS payment will work. Have mobile data available and your bank’s payment approval method ready.
Read the four-digit location code at the space, select the parking duration and complete payment. Keep the confirmation until the visit is finished. With the e-wallet method, parking can run until you stop it, so end the session before leaving. Card prepayment and an open-ended e-wallet session are different processes.
The app’s availability display helps you find parking; it does not reserve a bay. If payment fails, do not treat the failed screen as a free ticket. Use the help details in the app or move to a clearly permitted alternative.
A simple routine for a hire car
Before the first outing, save your hotel’s location, photograph the car’s registration for your own reference and find out where guests are allowed to park overnight. On arrival at a destination, read the bay signs before opening the payment app. Photograph the location code if it will help you extend the stay later.
Take passports, money and essential valuables with you. Keep parking confirmations and any rental-company instructions until the car is returned. If a meal runs long, extend the session before it expires rather than trying to resolve it afterwards.
Do you need a car just for central Paphos?
For a holiday centred on the harbour and nearby hotels, parking is not a reason to hire a car. Walk suitable local routes and use transport for the occasional longer journey. A car becomes more useful when you want several independent outings beyond town; choose it for those days rather than paying for an unused vehicle throughout your stay.
