Paphos bus tickets and payment: singles, day tickets and longer passes

← All local guides

For a simple daytime out-and-back journey, start with single tickets. A day ticket becomes more useful with several bus legs. Carry cash as a payment fallback: a Motion smartcard is not the same thing as a contactless bank card.

A simple daytime cost comparison

The district operator’s published table lists a daytime single at €2 and a day ticket at €6.50, reviewed on 1 November 2026. At those adult fares, two single journeys total €4, while four total €8. That makes a day ticket worth considering for a day involving several separate bus legs.

Count journeys you expect to make, including the return, before deciding. Do not buy a pass solely because you are staying a week. A week spent largely around your hotel may involve fewer paid bus trips than one busy sightseeing day.

Changing buses is not always included

An ordinary one-way paper ticket does not include transfers. Some Motion products have different transfer arrangements. Buy for the journey you are making rather than assuming that every ticket lets you change buses for free.

When a route requires a change, allow time for both the connection and the walk between stops. A useful outward service is only half a plan: identify the return journey before you leave the hotel. Avoid combining two distant areas merely because both appear on the same district map.

Do not rely on Apple Pay without confirmation

The published ticket information describes onboard ticket sales and Motion travel cards. It does not establish universal acceptance of bank cards or Apple Pay on every bus. Carry enough cash for your intended journey as a fallback; that is not a claim that every vehicle is cash-only.

A contactless reader can be designed for a transport smartcard. Seeing one, or reading the word “smartcard”, does not prove that tapping your phone will pay the fare. If you want to travel without cash, obtain current payment confirmation from the operator for the service you will use.

Longer passes need a different buying decision

The published non-personalised weekly fare is €35; longer-period products are sold through information offices. Before buying, establish the product’s district coverage and any card-issuance charge. A district ticket is not automatically an all-Cyprus or intercity ticket.

For a short stay, work out your likely paid journeys first. Buying and loading a travel card can be sensible for regular use, but it is not automatically the easiest option for a visitor making one beach trip and one Old Town outing. Reduced fares require the relevant entitlement, not simply being a student somewhere.

Late journeys deserve a separate budget

The operator’s current page contains conflicting night-fare figures in different sections. We are therefore not presenting one guaranteed night fare here. For travel after 21:00, confirm the applicable ticket and fare before boarding and keep a return alternative if your evening runs late.

The timetable matters more than a small fare difference. Choose a dinner location around the return you can actually make, or budget for a taxi instead of assuming a late bus will be available. For flight connections, use the airport route information rather than extrapolating from a city route.
