Agios Kendeas Church in Paphos Old Town

Local life · Paphos Old Town

An afternoon in the Old Town

Slow down for small streets, a coffee break and a different side of Paphos.

Treat the upper town as its own outing, especially if you are starting at the seafront. Choose a few streets to explore and build in time for a meal. Check your return transport and individual opening hours rather than assuming everything stays open into the evening.

Start in the upper town

Begin around the Municipal Market and nearby streets, then make a small loop with a café or lunch stop. The Old Town is inland and uphill from the harbour; arriving at the waterfront does not mean you have reached it. Agios Kendeas provides a useful landmark for the surrounding town streets rather than a reason to rush through a checklist.

Get there without turning it into a long uphill walk

Route 610 connects the harbour with the Municipal Market. Use the current stop and return information for your day, or arrange a taxi if the walk and connections do not suit your party. From a hotel outside central Paphos, plan the approach to the upper town rather than assuming the harbour is always the best interchange.

Make lunch part of the visit

Give the area a half day instead of adding it after a tiring beach afternoon. Choose a restaurant such as Laona for a town-based meal, or keep the visit shorter with coffee and a walk. A particular shop or museum may have different hours from the surrounding streets, so choose the day around the one indoor stop you most want to make.

A little useful context

Pair with Laona if its opening hours suit your day.
