Kataklysmos in Paphos: the waterfront festival and your holiday
Kataklysmos is Cyprus’s flood festival, associated with Pentecost and coastal celebrations. In 2027 Pentecost Monday is 21 June; Paphos performances and waterfront activities need their own current programme.

What is Kataklysmos?
The name is commonly translated as flood, and the celebration is associated with Pentecost. Coastal festivities bring together music, dancing and activities on or beside the water. The mix depends on the town and the year; a general description is not a programme of promised events.
For a visitor, the appeal is a day or evening shaped around the waterfront rather than a standard sightseeing checklist. Choose the part of the published programme you want to see, then leave time for a meal and the journey back. You do not need to spend the whole festival at the harbour.
When is Kataklysmos in 2027?
Pentecost Monday falls on 21 June. That gives you a calendar reference, but it does not establish the opening night, length or closing concert of the Paphos festival. The 2027 local event programme is still awaiting confirmation here.
Do not convert a previous year’s Friday-to-Monday schedule into new dates without an announcement. If attending a particular performance is the main reason for the trip, confirm it before buying non-refundable travel. If you are already visiting, keep the occasion as a possible addition until the details are clear.
Paphos harbour and Latchi harbour are not interchangeable
In 2026, the Paphos programme centred on the Old Port area, while Polis Chrysochous had a separate festival at Latsi Harbour. The latter is on a different part of the coast and needs a separate journey from central Paphos.
Read the town name as carefully as the event title. A Blue Lagoon boat usually starts on the Latchi side; a Paphos harbour restaurant does not put you beside that departure. Choose one waterfront as your main destination for the outing unless you have deliberately arranged the transfer between them.
Make an evening visit straightforward
Once the programme is published, choose a meeting point and a viewing spot suitable for your group. Leave room for crowds and access changes without assuming that all waterfront roads will close. Ask about access if steps, long periods standing or busy spaces could make the visit difficult.
A meal nearby can give the evening a simple structure, but reserve against the actual event time. Confirm where a taxi can collect you or check the last usable bus. For children, an earlier part of the programme may fit better than making a late performance the only reason to go.
A boat trip is a separate booking
Festival activities and commercial cruises are not the same ticket. Do not expect a harbour-cruise booking to include a festival performance or a Blue Lagoon transfer to leave you at an evening event. Check the departure point, return time and what is included for the specific option.
A short daytime cruise can work on another day of the stay; a full Blue Lagoon outing may leave little appetite for a late event after the road journey. Compare the total day rather than adding activities simply because they all mention the sea.
Choose accommodation around the whole holiday
If Paphos harbour evenings are a regular priority, compare Kato Paphos hotels and the exact route from each property. If your week is mainly beach or resort time, a coastal base with a planned festival journey may be more useful. One possible event should not outweigh every other day of the trip.
Before committing, check the final festival programme, your hotel’s location and transport on the holiday Monday. Save an ordinary nearby plan too. That way, a changed programme affects one outing rather than the purpose of the entire stay.
